DAVID HOPKINS

I grew up in a Christian home with a musical family. I was saved at six years old but didn't grow in my relationship with the Lord till I was discipled as a teenager in youth ministry at church. It was also in church where my gift for singing was discovered and developed. After high school, God provided full scholarships in voice and I had every intention to pursue a career in opera (I wanted to be the next Pavarotti!), but God had other plans. One night while meditating on a passage from Philippians 3 that says, "I consider everything a loss com- pared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord...", I was suddenly and ir- revocably called into full time ministry. My dream of being an operatic tenor was eclipsed by the supremacy of knowing and making known my Savior. Upon graduating from T.U. (B.M. Vocal Performance '00), I moved to Nashville, TN where I worked for LifeWay Christian Re- sources. It was there in "Music City" where God solidified my calling. While sitting and pray- ing in a park one day, the Lord spoke to my heart and mind and said, "I want you to lead my people in worship." The voice was so strong it could have been audible. Thus began an amaz- ing journey that's led me to Southwestern Seminary (M. Div/Ch. Music '06), to serving as Worship Pastor of churches in Texas, Oklahoma, and now here in New Mexico. Along the way, I met and married my beautiful wife and the love of my life, Ruth, and together God's blessed us with four boys: Joshua, Samuel, Andrew and Daniel, and two daughters: Gracie and Lillian Faith. We are thrilled to be a part of what God is doing in this church. My calling hasn't changed since that day in the park and it's the same here: my passion, joy, and privilege is to lead the believers of Hoffmantown Church to His throne in worship.
